Għandi fidjuċja

Billi kulħadd juża l-lingwa biex jitkellem, kulħadd mingħalih kapaċi jitkellem dwar il-lingwa.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Wans egejn, DCG, il-lingwista 'inħaws' tal-Malta Indipendenti u protagonista dejjiema tal-bloggosfera mingħajr ma jkollha blogg (jew mingħajr ma jkillha, għax jiena tas-Sawt u għandi ħabta 'nsawwat' il-lingwa), għoġbitha turina l-għarfien lingwistiku tagħha b'din il-ġawhra tal-bieraħ:

«A question about the first would translate into Maltese as “tafdah il-gvern?”, while a question about the second would read “ghandek fidjucja fil-gvern?[sic.]. What is required here, of course, is the answer to the second question, which is not particularly interesting.» (Ħajr lil Jacques)

U din wara l-lezzjoni ta' ġimagħtejn ilu, meta għarrfitna li kliem bħal denfil (< delfino) huma sintomi ta' nuqqas ta' edukazzjoni min-naħa tal-kelliema:

«Yet in Malta, the language of the poorly educated is rapidly becoming the official language. Words like pirmli (pilloli) petlor, lamienu (almenu), Furjana, denfil, irkotta (ricotta), ircevuta (ricevuta) are not valid Maltese words, but mispronunciations of them – the result of an inability to keep liquid consonants in their proper place. One of these errors, denfil, was horrendously given as the title of a textbook used by schoolchildren for around 30 years. Yet in every language where the name of this mammal is built around the consonants d-l-f-n, they follow that order of pronunciation: in Arabic, Italian, Spanish, French, Greek and English. It is a dolphin and not a ‘donphil’; a delfino and not a ‘denfilo’, and in Arabic, it is pronounced delfin and not denfil. Only we have given official status to this mistake, which has its roots in ignorance. Calling a textbook Id-denfil was the equivalent of teaching children that fuel stations sold petlor.» [it-tipa ħoxna tiegħi]

Kif diġà fissirt fil-blogg ta' Robert, l-ispostament ta' konsonanti (l-aktar il-likwidi, ċjoè l, m, n u r) fl-evoluzzjoni ta' kelma huwa r-riżultat ta' proċess naturali msejjaħ metateżi. Fl-etimoloġija Maltija u lil hinn minnha, ċerti ħsejjes ħadu post xulxin, dejjem skond is-sistema fonetika tal-lingwa partikulari. Fil-Malti, il-kelma delfino saret denfil, u ricotta saret irkotta; fl-Ispanjol, pericûlum saret peligro, waqt li parabola saret palabra; u fl-Ingliż, nagħtu kas, insibu l-etimoloġiji bryd > bird u hros > horse. Żbalji jew le, dan huwa proċess naturali. Jewwilla l-kelliema ta' l-Ispanjol u ta' l-Ingliż –u skond dan l-istudju ta' l-1998, hawnhekk qegħdin nitkellmu dwar 10.9% tal-popolazzjoni dinjija f'71 pajjiż– huma kollha qabda ċwieċ?

Imma insomma. Kif qal il-Gybexi, anki jekk l-argumenti tagħha spiss ikunu tajbin u minsuġin b'reqqa, l-artikli ta' DCG trid teħodhom mhux biss b'tikka melħ iżda b'borża cips. Jew kif qal Marco Galea f'ittra li bagħat lill-istess gazzetta, leave it to the experts – u jien (għadni) m'iniex wieħed minnhom.

La t-tieni mistoqsija kellha tkun «għandek fidjuċja fil-gvern?», żidtha f'minisondaġġ mal-ġenb.

«Yet in Malta, the language of the poorly educated is rapidly becoming the official language.»

Għandi fidjuċja li l-lingwa uffiċjali għad issir dik ta' kulħadd, u mhux biss ta' l-hekk imsejħa poorly educated.

Twann:
I think you misunderstand what DCG was trying to say.

She's not saying that Maltese is becoming the language of the poorly educated; she's saying that the pigdin version of Maltese (blekbord ... gersi ... senpejper ... etc) is creating a language that is more, not less, impoverished.

I'm four-sqaure behind Daphne on this one. I don't believe in promoting pidgin-Maltese, and I admit that I find it difficult to understand how a polyglot like you can condone it. Maltese is a beautiful language as it is, and hardly needs these sort of abominations to supposedly enrich it.

U t-tieni punt, korollarju ta' l-ewwel wieħed, huwa dak li sraqt minn Goethe.

Bex: Daħħaktni waħda sew!!

... bid-differenza, naħseb, li DCG MA TUŻAX il-lingwa Maltija biex titkellem, imma aktar biex iċċaflas. (Jien għadni nċaflas ukoll fit-taħdit, imma dik storja oħra).

Zemp, int taħseb li l-kelmiet pirmli, Furjana, irkotta, irċevuta, biex ma nsemmux peligro, palabra, bird, horse, m'humiex kelmiet "validi", kif iddikjarat hi??

Ħbieb, inħossni inkorraġġuta :-)), għax wieħed jista' jċaflas b'Malti ħażin bħal tiegħi u jinqara minn kulħadd. (F'Malta Deffny titla u Deffny tinżel, hux?)

Imma min-naħa l-oħra nħossni skorraġġuta wisq :-((... Sabiex ma nċaflas għal dejjem, fejn nista' nipprattika l-Malti??? Lil Ġorġina tar-raħal ma nifhimhiex, lil Deffny tal-belt ma nifhimhiex... mela aħjar immur Brussel jew l-Lussemburgu???

Interessanti din tal-"hros"... Fil-Ġermaniż hemm il-kelma "Ross" bħala kelma aktar poetika għaż-żiemel (Pferd).

Fil-Grieg Modern hemm ħafna "żbalji" wkoll. ħeqq, skond DCG il-kelma "balena" jew fil-Latin "balaena" hija "żball" ukoll, għax ġejja mill-kelma Griega φάλαινα, jiġifieri "phalaina" bil-pronunzja tal-qedem...).

Dwar l-irkotta... Inti żgur li din metateżi u m'hix twaqqigħ ta' vokali? L-i vokali tal-leħen, hux?

Tsilijiet
Maria

P.S. Skużani... suppost li naf li għandi nikteb *titla'* u *Brussell*, imma... għadni qed inċaflas wisq
